IRONBODY 47, BIG KEN

Ken started bodybuilding just like thousands of other high school teenagers, at 15 bought his first posing suit, similiar to a speedo or todays pro style suit by Andreas Cahlings. Ken looked buff in his posing suit, his pectorals were getting huge, his biceps and triceps getting bigger fast. His muscular frame looked even better with his dark tan from spending the summer on the beach only in a speedo. He was always kidded at the ymca about having a swimsuit on, his tan lines showed off his white muscular glutes. Back in the 50's,60's swimming at the Y suits were not allowed. Ken was always in skimpy speedo on the beach so the posing suit was a natural with his lean muscular body. After his workouts he'd slip into his posing suit and do poses almost daily getting the admiring attention of his peers. Back then they were also called posingpouch or trunks . He made some gains but as the gains slowed his interested waned. All the gains he made in high school and college were gone by 1967, when he went into the United States Navy on active duty. Today it's hard to believe he left boot camp in San Diego, CA, at 6-2 and 145 pounds. Years past by and the only gains were mostly in the wrong places. At 33 when most men have other hobbies, Ken started reading more and more about nutrition and applying it to bodybuilding principles. Ken transferred to shore duty and along with his much younger lifting partner, David Henley, they put his knowledge to good use. His weight hardly changed the first year but there was a remarkable improvement in his overall appearance, by dropping body-fat and gaining lean hard muscle. Turning 37 in February 1984, he seemed to stop the aging process. He was busting out of his uniforms, he was growing so fast and at his age so many too notice. In 1985, he went back to seaduty with Attack Squadron Fifty-five, World Famous Warhorses.Ken obtained instant notoriety with his massive built, it was impossible to hide his massive pecs,thick quads, and judding muscular glutes even in uniform.Ken spent almost as much on tailoring his uniforms as the uniforms themselves. His superb conditioning was noticed by his peers.

As a young Chief Petty officer, he had many collateral duties among them fod-walkdown CPO on the ramps at the naval air station. He quickly noticed the conditioning of squadron personnel was lacking and started a mini fitness program every morning before fod-walkdowns, push-ups for all. His first nickname was Chief Push-Up, later on the cruise he was called "Super Chief". Thats where he met his close friend, Doug Kirkland, and with Doug's Ordanance shop they managaged to load aboard 3 olympic weight sets on the ship prior to deployment. Back at sea and working 12 hour days aboard the USS Coral Sea, Ken made his largest gains ever in a 6 month period. His physique was quite impressive then and to be able to lift without constant interruption from others asking advice and wanting to jump in to do a set, he was lifting at 3:30 a.m. every morning in a bleak poorly lighted hangar bay. His young lifting partner of 19, Kevin Bailey gained muscle almost twice as fast. They even spent their port liberty visits lifting in the local gyms. Plus in Naples Italy, they had time to get some color tanning in their posing suits.Watching each other grow was motivation for both lifting partners. Lifting partners bond after a while, you almost know what the other is thinking and feeling. Pushing each other to their max. Aside from other questioning whether their accomplishments were natural ones, everyone wanted to know the secrets. Ken decided to share his knowledge of supplementation.

Kenneth A. Harder founded Team Bodybuilding in 1986, after studing and selling nutritional products for many years. One of his biggest concerns was the escalating prices of supplements and easy availibilty of steriods. Prices had to be lower to encourage the athletes to stay natural and healthier. Affordable Quality since 1986, says it all. The majority of Team Bodybuilding Formulas have not increased in price, many in fact are lower today, and only one is more.

Ken has worked hard to promote natural bodybuilding.Starting in 1990 Ken worked with Jack King (Chesapeake, VA) in promoting and running the Neptune Classic Bodybuilding Championship, held at the Virginia Beach Pavilion until 1993. He has worked together with other contest directors and the State and Former National AAU Chairman, Bob Crist in promoting drug-free contests.

Ken has spear headed Team Bodybuilding's efforts to promote natural bodybuilding. The teenage sponsorship/assistance program is personally managed by him. Jonathon Brandon, Ben Politte, Corey Little, Justin KayeBrian Miller, Michael Brunn, Aaron Po well, and many more of the teenagers in the program easily demonstrates how well Team Bodybuilding Formulas work when combined with a regimented weight lifting program. These dedicated teenagers have inspired many to start bodybuilding. Our teenagers have won many regional championships, a State title, and Jonathon won a silver medal in the 1995 Junior Olympics in Bodybuilding.In 1996 he won his second medal, The Virginia State Bodybuilding Contest and in December 1996 won the Teenage Ironman. The following year, Team Bodbuilding Teenagers captured: Gold , Silver and Bronze medals in the Junior Olympics. This year (1998) the Junior Olympics Physique contest is in Virginia Beach, VA.

At 6-2 240,Ken is a walking advertisement himself, still too busy to devote the countless hours needed for national competition, his personal goals remain on hold.Losing another dedicated lifting partner, Tim, has been hard. Ken dropped some muscle and size lifting by himself. He is still a testimonial to natural bodybuilding at age 49, who would have guessed. Number 50 is approaching fast.

We don't want to give Ken's followers the idea we are putting him out to pasture, he has many goals ahead of him. Ken had a good leg workout just the other day with teenager, Brian Miller. Brian has gained another ten pounds of muscle and 20 pounds of confidence. Much improvement was noticeable in the hamstrings and glutes. Brian is a full time college student and is trying to make Saturdays's his legday with Ken often. Both seem to work-out to the max well together. One of Ken's secrets on leg days is a 15 minute sauna session for warm-up, then 15 minutes on a stepper. Get the blood into his massive quads and glutes. After the workout its another 15-20 minutes of sauna. Brian noticed the difference in his recovery as just one of the benefits of the sauna. Before and after each workout Ken takes Amino Density 1900 to maintain and increase his muscularity.

LATE NEWS, Ken is grooming a new lifting partner and hopes they continue lifting together for a long time. Ken is all a glow with that daily pump again and tipping the scales at 250 pounds. Lem's (Ken's new partner) goals may be more in conditioning than competition, only time will tell but his dedication is high, they start lifting at 5:30 am everyday and Sundays off for tanning in their posing thongs. Kens already finishing in the tanning bed when Lem arrives. They both appreciate the uninterrupted workout they get lifting early. They are finished with the sauna at 7:30 just when others are starting their workout. Ken feels the benefits of his daily sauna sessions. Many lifters in the gym are noticing Ken's gains and how quick he is getting his size back. Just Saturday after legs, Brian insisted he measure his quads, they measure 30" with a solid pump. Months have past by quickly, Ken has another new lifting Partner, Steve. They have been lifting together now for over a year and their routines are in sync with eachother. Finding another lifting partner to lift as early as Lem was thought impossible but few people have had the opportunity to train 1 on 1 with Ken and Steve jumped on the chance. Ken is now 52 years old and people don't believe it. Natural bodybuilding has certainly helped him maintain his youthful appearance. Steve and Ken are taking muscle intensity plus. Steve has gained 14 pounds of solid muscle.
Recently in December 1998, Ken lifted again with one of his first partners, David Henley after almost 12 years. They had planned to workout often.
How the time flys bye quickly, now approaching his 53rd birthday Ken's goals of competing have still not been met, although seen often covered with protan or jantana its from getting one of the teenagers from the sponsorship ready for a show. 1999 has been a very good year for TEAM BODYBUILDING and a poor year for Ken's workout schedule. With an increasing customer base and much larger Teenage Program, Ken has missed his share of days in the gym plus is looking for a workout partner for his one on one 5 am workouts. It's been a busy year sponsoring both the JR. America and AMERICA (held in December).

Ken has been in the gym regularly since March-April with a new lifting partner. Hard finding someone with the dedication and determination to lift at 5:00 AM every morning. A no nonsense workout workout combined with some cardio they are out of the gym 615/630. Working on the basics with a 3 day rotation 6 days a week, Monday-Saturday, his size and strength are coming back at a good pace using muscle intensity plus, creatine, and NOX3. That sustained nitric oxide pump 8-10 hours after lifting is awesome plus it makes you look younger too. Some new pictures have been posted below.
Ken's 56, soon 57 and in terrific shape.
2004 was a tough year for Ken , he was sidelined after a double hernia operation plus during the recovery period he added a few pounds in the wrong places. Just as he kicked the cardio up and started losing those pounds he found out now it's the leftside that the surgeon needs to repair now. Just as he was getting ripped and down to a 10 year low of 225 pounds. Surgery will be in May 2005.
